Banana pancakes

I love that Jack Johnson song hence the title. I've been super busy with school these past few day it's my last class tomorrow and I've been working on my final project. I'm officially done with my quarter tomorrow. I have a one week break and I thought I was going to stay here in Florida but on Monday I decided I'm going to Puerto Rico tomorrow to visit family and friends! I'm so excited that I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. I'm packing as I type!

I was looking up  Elizabeth Taylor pictures yesterday for one of my projects and found out she passed away today. May she rest in peace. Since I had already a bunch of her pictures saved in my computer let me share them with all of you.

Talking to the moon

How beautiful was the moon last night?  I had dinner at this Thai / Japanese restaurant by the beach and stared at the moon for a while. There was so many people at the beach with chairs and blankets. I literally had 5 minutes to get ready last night so I put on the first thing I saw which was this red shirt I just bought.

Flashback Friday

Every Friday I'm going to try to post about an iconic individual. Today I am going to talk about Betty Grable who is most well known for her bathing suit photo. She was the number one pin up girl in the World War II Era . Her legs were insured for one million dollars back then that's crazy.

the remedy

I've been extremely busy with school for the past few days. Anyways I wore this outfit to school today. I had my fashion history class all day which I absolutely love. It's so interesting and I always find myself super excited after getting out of it. After the class I headed to the library and checked out some books that I plan on reading  I also got my Elle and Vogue magazine in the mail! I realized it was St. Pattys Day on my way to school and forgot to wear green.

Dress: Valija Gitana
Blazer: Charlotte Russe
Shoes: Gift from my sister I believe she got them in a small boutique in Puerto Rico called Shehab

I already read Diane Von Furstenberg's book and it's an interesting read.

Right now I'm taking pictures with my mom's cellphone and I am looking into to getting a fancy digital slr camera but one that's decently priced. What camera do you girls use to take pictures? Which one would you recommend?

Exhausted

Yesterday was a really long day and I have the blisters to prove it. I went shopping and thrift shopping and it was really fun but I took longer than expected and wasn't able to take pictures of my outfit. I'm going to try again today. Anyways I wanted to share with you some of  my work I've had to do for school. Right now I'm taking fashion history so I've had to do different time periods and put an example of each word given to me and modern comparisons of it. That's why you'll find modern pictures that somehow don't fit in.

My first collage was about two trends for this summer. I decided they were bright shocking colors and cat eye sunglasses.

This one was about what inspired me. High waisted pants, the city, ocean, camera, and the picture on the right is actually my mom.
My mom was wearing high waisted jeans here. Fashion always repeats itself.
Egyptians fun fact I found out. Cleopatra is not Egyptian she is actually Greek.
Greeks
This one was not an assignment. I just did it for fun. I picked my favorite dresses
Romans
How crazy are those shoes in the right? I can't believe people could actually walk in those. It makes my high heels look like toddler shoes.
Renaissance. Another time period where I'm glad I wasn't alive. Those stomach corsets were crazy and the dresses? I really have to admire these ladies for being able to even stand in these.

I always love feedback so feel free to comment. As soon as I get more done I'll post them.

Alice + Olivia

Isn't the web design for Alice and Olivia site adorable? I'm loving the leopard on the house and the print of the dress. The dots around move if you visit the site here http://www.aliceandolivia.com

Stacey Bendet is the master behind this line. She launched Alice + Olivia in Barneys NY in 2002 and was an instant success. She also designed a line for Payless shoes in 2008. Here is some of  the Spring 2011 Ready to wear line and some of the look book. Bendet was going for a boho vibe. I got super excited when I saw the peplum dress and the skirt. Peplum actually comes from the Greeks and is the skirt looking thing you see in the middle of the white dress and one of the skirts in the look book. Victoria Beckam loves wearing peplum dresses or suits. Google it!

Graduation & Prom

Since I won't be doing an outfit post till tomorrow. Let me show you what I wore for my graduation and prom. My school was a little bit ridiculous in the sense that it had a lot of silly ceremonies and that meant a lot of dresses. I had a baccalaureate ceremony which till this day I don't really understand the meaning of it an award ceremony, graduation, prom, and the after party. That meant 5 dresses. I made the mistake of cutting a lot of my hair which I now regret right before my first activity.  For my baccalaureate ceremony I wore a BCBG dress that I got at the outlet. I had it tailored since it was little big on me and changed the belt to a skinny belt from Forever 21. The shoes were bought at a sale a long time ago in a store called Galeria in Puerto Rico.

For my Award Ceremony  I wore this simple black Rachel Roy dress I got on sale at Macys. I  love love the back of this dress and that's mainly why I got it. I apparently did not take pictures showing the back that was the only one I could find. I topped it off with black pumps that are Idore if I am not mistaken and a silver clutch. The ceremony was at night that's why I felt it was appropriate to wear black.

For my graduation I was in search for the perfect dress. I didn't want to buy my dress in Puerto Rico so I spent hours searching online. This dress is from Asos. I knew this was the dress I wanted the moment I saw it. I took the risk and ordered it not knowing if I was ordering the correct  size since it was UK sizes. I ordered it a size bigger than what I am since I have big thighs. The dress came in and it fit perfectly in my thighs but it was really big on top so I had it tailored. I wore it with my black pumps again. These pumps are so high and I love the heel of it.

Finding a dress for my prom was so much fun. Proms in Puerto Rico are really different than proms in the United States. In Puerto Rico all of your family attends the prom and I especially loved this night because it had been years since my family and I all were in the same place and went to a party together considering my parents are divorced. Originally I wanted my dress to be done by a Puerto Rican designer. My sister and I  got on the Internet and started looking at all of the designers. I chose Lisa Thon because I loved her new collection. I decided she was the one when I saw this red dress with this amazing back in one of her runway shows on YouTube. I made an appointment with her and when we were talking about dress ideas I mentioned how I was in love with the red dress. In a chance of luck the dress was in the shop and she asked if I wanted to try it on. I tried it on and it fit perfectly it only needed a tiny things done.

This is the dress on the model. In this picture you can really see the color of the dress. In the pictures I am wearing it you really can't see the color of the dress. I felt like the dress was too revealing in the front so I made them sew it a little bit in the front and also considering my boobs are small. When you walk the way the dress flows is amazing. She also added some beading in the center. The back of the dress is shaped like a star because that was her inspiration for the collection. The pictures do not do the dress justice it looks so much better when you see it in person. My prom was the day after my graduation and that made it a little bit stressful I had my sister do my make up. I think she did an amazing job. This guy at the salon did my make up for my graduation and I didn't really like I felt like I looked really white. I thought a bun was a good hairstyle so people could see the back of the dress. I bought this beautiful earrings by Puerto Rican designer Erika Peña.

Last two pictures are of  my brother's girlfriend Carla and I and the other one is my mom and I dancing. This picture describes my mom and I very well and you can also see how much fun I had that night.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the dress I wore to the after party.
